Luna liked to carry her chick on her head in order to keep her safe. Valentine, who had a great respect for birds and had been a lifelong friend of Luna’s, followed her custom.

Earlier that day they had come upon an abandoned egg. Valentine wasn’t quite sure if there was room up there for the chick that was going to hatch, but she was a resilient girl, she would find a way.
